Women to Head 15 ULBs in West Odisha

Women leaders will head 15 out of 20 urban local bodies (ULBs) in nine Western Odisha districts which had gone to polls last month.

Women leaders will head 15 out of 20 urban local bodies (ULBs) in nine Western Odisha districts which had gone to polls last month. The election for chairperson posts was held across the districts on Wednesday and as is the norm, ruling BJD swept it all.

Of 20 top posts, BJD candidates were elected chairperson in 17 while BJP, Congress and Independents bagged one each. As many as 15 of 20 chairpersons are women. Out of 17 BJD-led ULBs, 11 will be headed by women chairpersons. The three ULB chairpersons posts which went to BJP, Congress and Independent candidates are all women too.
