Satyabrat had first met the woman, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, when he was drinking country liquor handia with his wife Saudamini in their slum on Tuesday morning. At the time, the heavily inebriated woman slipped and fell down sustaining injury in the head. She was taken to the City hospital by Satyabrat and Sasi where the doctor stitched her wound and let them off.
The two then brought the woman to the thatched house and raped her. They then strangulated the woman causing her death before leaving. While Satyabrat fled, Sasi returned to the bustee but fell down on the way slitting his tongue. His injury aroused suspicion among the locals, who brought him to the police station.
During investigation, police stumbled upon the dead body of the woman, who was lying in the house half naked. The duo had tried to shield the entry to the thatched house by putting thorny bushes around.
The napkin of Satyabrata was found on the spot while sniffer dogs led police straight to his house.
