An eight-member delegation, led by Gujarat Minister for Forest and Environment Ganpatsinh Vasava, is on a three-day visit to the State to seek public cooperation for construction of an iron statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on the bank of the Narmada river. Addressing a meeting organised by the Civil Society of Gujaratis in the city, Vasava said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has taken the initiative to construct the world’s tallest 182-metre ‘Statue of Unity’ under the aegis of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust.
He sought the cooperation of leading social representatives, NGOs and others. It has been planned to collect iron from each village of the State, Vasav said.
Two Members of Parliament, five MLAs and a few officers of Gujarat Government are part of the delegation.
