SKBP Demands Inclusion of Koshali in Statute

The Sambalpuri-Koshali Bhasa Pratisthan (SKBP) has reiterated its demand for inclusion of their local language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

SKBP has been demanding official recognition of Sambalpuri-Koshali for a long time now. Addressing media persons here on Wednesday, association president Sriballav Panigrahi said about 1.5 crore people of the State communicate through the Sambalpuri-Koshali language. The Sambalpur University has dedicated a Department for publication and circulation of books and monographs in Sambalpuri language. They also want the introduction of the language in primary education in Western Odisha so that the students can learn better. A memorandum stating the demands was submitted to Governor SC Jamir here on Wednesday.
