There seems to be no end to violence by students in Utkal University. In the last one week, violence erupted in the university twice following clash between warring students’ groups.

After Wednesday’s incident, the ongoing semester examinations have been cancelled. The new date of examinations will be announced soon, said Controller of Examinations Sushant Kumar Das.

The remaining examinations will be held from December 16. PG Council Chairman PK Mishra and the teachers also met Vice-Chancellor Prashant Sahoo demanding streamlining of examinations, criminal proceedings against students who took part in the violence and adequate security on the campus.

“If examinations are not held on time, we may not be able to introduce the choice-based credit system from the next academic session,” said a teacher. On Monday, first and third semester examinations of commerce, integrated MBA and physics and internal examinations of many departments had been cancelled.

Mishra said though entry of outsiders was supposed to be banned in November, it could not materialise as teachers did not submit details about their family members to the university administration on time.
