Youth's Death Sparks Tension

Death of a 25-year-old youth in a road mishap near Pandara Square led to tension on Monday morning as locals resorted to road blockade protesting police inaction to check such mishaps.

The incident took place when Rashmi Ranjan Mallick was on his morning walk. He was hit by a Tata Magic from behind and suffered serious head injuries, leading to his death. This angered the locals who have been demanding a traffic post at the junction since October when a similar mishap had claimed two lives.

Police reached the spot and assured that necessary steps will be taken to meet their demands. Only then the protestors relented.

In a separate incident, a 40-year-old driver was found hanging from a tree near Kargil Road on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Suresh Sahu, a resident of Nayagarh.
