Lawyers to Relaunch Stir Over HC Bench Issue

The lawyers of Sambalpur District Bar Association (SDBA) observed Pratibad Divas and boycotted the court on Tuesday. They resolved to re-launch their stir over setting up the High Court bench if the State Government does not submit a complete and comprehensive report over the issue to the Union Government by December 31. They also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor of Odisha over the issue through the District Collector, stating that the letter of the State Government was incomplete and did not mention about the route to be adopted to set up the High Court bench.

While the lawyers are demanding that the State Government should categorically mention that an Ordinance over the issue be passed in the Parliament, the letter to the Chief Minister does not mention about the method to be adopted.

This has led the Union Law Ministry to pursue the matter as per the provisions laid down in State Reorganisation Act which is delaying the entire issue and requires recommendation of the Chief Justice of Odisha High

Court. Earlier, the lawyers had taken out a rally which went around Sambalpur town.

SDBA Secretary, S S Sahu said the recommendation sent by the State Government over establishment of High Court Bench in this region was incomplete.
