Ambulance Rams Busy Square; 3 Hurt

An ambulance rammed into a major thoroughfare of the City and left three persons injured on Wednesday evening. One of them was a woman.

The driver of the 108 Ambulance lost control while overtaking another vehicle near Anand Bazar Square and hit at least four bikes and in the process left three persons injured. It then fled the spot.

Sahid Nagar Police said the ambulance, carrying a patient, was headed towards Acharya Vihar Square when the driver tried to overtake another vehicle. When it lost control, the ambulance swerved towards the right side of the road hitting the bikers on its way. One bike was completely crushed while three others suffered damage.  The ambulance driver stayed put at the accident site for a few minutes before speeding away. Locals informed the Sahid Nagar Police.

In a separate incident, a vegetable vendor was run over by a speeding truck near Acharya Vihar Square during early hours of the day. The victim died on the spot.

Police said the vendor was crossing the NH 5 when the truck ran over him and sped away. Before help could reach, he died.

Since the truck’s registration plate was not noticed by anyone, police were finding it hard to track it down. No one has been arrested in this connection as yet.
