Even as the State Government has targeted to supply 6.70 lakh quintals of certified paddy seeds to the farmers during this kharif, the BJP on Sunday advised the Agriculture Department to host all information relating to seed distribution on the official website to make the system more transparent.
Dismissing the Department’s claim of supplying 3.5 lakh quintals of quality seeds to the farmers during the 2012-13 kharif season, the BJP Krushak Morcha said that the seed distribution turned out to be a fiasco after detection of fraud committed by the companies which had signed MoUs.
It came to the notice of the Government that foundation seeds supplied to registered farmers for production of certified seeds were non-existent and the seeds supplied by the ghost farmers were of poor standard.
The issued rocked the Assembly with the Government promising action against the defaulting companies. However, no action has been initiated so far, Krushak Morcha president Maheswar Sahu said.
Since Government has provided computers to all gram panchayats, Krushak Morcha demanded that details about seed supply and names of farmers with their land holding pattern should be made available online for greater transparency.
