Ravenshaw to be revealed in profile

Ravenshaw University is all set to bring out a treatise, tracing the course of its history right from its inception to present being and future plans, even as it makes a pitch for grant of Central University status before the Union Government.

The book ‘Ravenshaw Profile’ will be released within a fortnight.

It will be a complete information source detailing each and every aspect of the premier educational institution which has played a pivotal role in shaping modern Odisha.

Apart from the history, it will feature the achievements over almost a century and a half, the luminaries who have treaded the hallowed corridors of the institution, its present day academics, research and future plans.

The book, besides being made available for the people, would also be used for mobilising support for Central University status for Ravenshaw.

It will be distributed among MPs and MLAs for taking up the cause at the highest levels.

“We have already submitted a detailed proposal to the State Government for approaching the Centre on the issue. It would also be taken up with Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister MM Pallam Raju, who will address the sixth annual convocation of the University on July 2,” Vice-Chancellor BC Tripathy said.Ravenshaw University qualifies on all counts to be accorded the Central University status. It is a Unitary University without any affiliated college under it.

The illustrious institution has been a pillar of academic excellence in the State. It has also been the cornerstone of intellectual and political movements that have charted the course of the State. “The University is also undergoing rapid expansion. While new schools and programmes are being launched, the second campus is also in the offing,” Tripathy stated.

Eminent writer Sitakanta Mahapatra, academicians Priyambada Mohanty Hejmadi and DC Mishra, linguist Devi Prasanna Patnaik and renowned Odissi vocalist Pandit Raghunath Panigrahi will be conferred honoris causa during the convocation.
