Five fishermen survive trawler fire

Five fishermen were rescued after their fishing trawler which docked at Paradip fishing harbour caught fire and sunk off Bay of Bengal on Monday evening.

Sources said while the trawler, Maa Lankeswari, started to go for fishing, fire sparked from its battery and sparks of fire fell on stored oil. Soon, the fire engulfed the entire trawler.

On being informed, Paradip Marine Police and fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. They managed to rescue four fishermen with the help of other fishermen.

Though they failed to prevent the trawler from being razed, the police managed to take 50 trawlers from the harbour to safety.
