Relief rushed to Bonda hills

With flood water beginning to recede, the extent of damage caused by flash flood in the district is coming to light gradually. Crop in several acres of land has been damaged due to the flood in Khairput block.

A team of officials led by Collector M Muthu Kumar on Saturday visited the affected areas and took stock of the situation. He reviewed the repair works of the Khairput-Mudulipada road where a landslide had disrupted communication to the Bonda hills. Road communication to Mudulipada, Andrahal and other affected areas has been partly restored and communication to Bonda hills will be completely restored by Sunday. Officials are camping in the area to supervise relief and rescue operations.

Free kitchen has been opened for 8,000 people and dry food packets are also being distributed.  A team of revenue officials also rushed to the spot to find out the extent of crop damage in the block. The Collector said the damage can be estimated after the flood water recedes totally. Officials handed over compensation of Rs1.5 lakh to the husband of Malati Golpeda and family members of Phulmati Golpeda who were washed away in the flood water.
