A couple were run over by a train near Sardala village about 10 kms from Cuttack railway station on Tuesday. Their two-year-old boy, however, survived miraculously. The child was recovered in an unconscious state along the railway line near the spot. The deceased are yet to be identified.
According to Government Railway Police (GRP), the incident occurred at around 2 pm. The local villagers discovered the couple’s mutilated bodies and informed the police.
As per circumstantial evidence, the couple are suspected to have committed suicide by jumping in front of the running train. In their 30’s, they are believed to be ragpickers or gypsies.
Efforts are on to establish the identity of the couple and cause of death, GRP IIC SR Kar said.
