Tainted cop transferred

Dharmasala police station IIC Prasanta Kumar Majhi was transferred to Korei on Monday. Two months back, Majhi had arrested a 50-year-old innocent man Ali in a bid to shield Jaraka branch manager of Cosmo Rose International Limited (CRIL), a chit fund company, Md Mahasin Raja.

Jajpur SP Deepak Kumar had ordered an inquiry into the incident by DSP Bipin Behari Mallick.

In his inquiry report, the DSP had held IIC Majhi and another officer responsible for arrest of Ali.

Accordingly, disciplinary proceedings had started against Majhi.

Majhi was posted in Dharmasala police station in the first week of December last year.  Earlier, he was placed under suspension in this particular police station on the charges  of corruption. When Majhi was the officer-in-charge of Dharmasala police station, he was suspended for extracting money from truck drivers by the then SP Asit Kumar Panigrahi.

Majhi was accused of not registering FIRs received from people in the police station and many of them had to seek court’s intervention in lodging reports after Majhi’s refusal to receive FIRs.
