Two persons were arrested by police for allegedly raping a 22-year-old girl and produced before court here on Wednesday. The court remanded them in judicial custody.

The girl raped by the two men at her house in Charibatia village under Dharmasala police station limits in the district on Tuesday night. The two accused are Udaya Gocchayat (48) and Susanta Kumar Sahu (28).

While Gocchayat is owner of the house where the victim, a tailor, was staying on rent, Sahu is his  friend.

Police said the girl who hails from Balabhadrapur village under Patkura police limits in Kendrapara district runs a tailoring shop in nearby Chandikhol bazaar. She was residing in Gocchayat’s house at Charbatia village on rent for the last couple of months.

On Tuesday night, Gocchayat knocked at the door of the girl’s house and asked her to open it as there was an urgent work.

When the unsuspecting girl opened the door, both the house owner and his friend barged into her room  and closed the door from inside. They then committed the crime and threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anybody.

The victim, however, lodged a police complaint on Wednesday following which, police nabbed Gocchayat from his house and Sahu from a nearby village.
