A youth slit the throat of a 15-year-old boy over an alleged love affair at Katarpa village under Salipur police limits on Monday evening.
The boy, Arijit Biswal of Jaguleipada village, has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital while the youth Bansidhar Sahoo (27) was nabbed by locals and handed over to the police.
According to reports, Sahoo had targeted Arijit, a Class X student of the Katarpa High School, for mingling with a classmate, who was a subject of his one-sided affection.
Both had come to Katarpa village to witness Rath Yatra on Monday.
Following a heated altercation, Sahoo slit the throat of Arijit with a blade in the midst of the crowd.
He was immediately caught by the locals. Police rushed to the spot and took the the youth Bansidhar Sahoo in custody while Arijit was rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
