19 quintals of hemp seized; six arrested

Six persons were arrested and 19 quintals of hemp seized from their possession during a raid by Excise Department and Narcotic Control Bureau at Baghbar village under Naktideul police limits on Wednesday. The contraband is valued at Rs 1 crore.

The six have been identified as Sushila Poadh (40), Rama Chandra Pradhan (65), Manoj Pradhan (19), Jagabandhu Majhi (21), Pramod Poadh (24) and Akshaya Poadh (20), all of  Baghbar village.

Sources said on a tip off, officials of Excise Department and Narcotic Control Bureau raided 10 houses in the village and seized the contraband packed in bags.

The accused were produced in local court which remanded them in judicial custody. Four other accused, however, are still at large.
