Paradip Port Trust (PPT) received the Major Port of the Year Award in recognition of its excellence in cargo and logistic sector in the last financial year.

Chairman of PPT Sudhanshu Sekhar Mishra received the award at a function held by Shipping Times at the fifth South East Cargo & Logistics Awards function at Chennai. PPT was selected for the award on the basis of its operational performance, year-on-year growth, infrastructure development, connectivity and state-of-art facilities.

Sources in the PPT said the port handled 56.55 million tonnes (MT) of cargo traffic during 2012-13 which was the second highest in the history of PPT in the last 51 years.

The port achieved this feat despite the slump in iron ore export to the tune of 4.72

MT in the same financial year.

The port also achieved 4.24 per cent year-on-year growth against the previous year’s traffic of 54.25 MT.

Accepting the award, Chairman Mishra thanked the employees and other stakeholders for their contribution in development of

the port and the higherups in the Ministry of Shipping.
