In an effort to enable better understanding of epilepsy, thereby directing effective treatment of epilepsy, Apollo Hospitals, Bhubaneswar, has introduced the video EEG monitoring test for the first time in the State. The test, which is a more specialised form of EEG, allows doctors to observe brainwave activity during the time of a seizure or occurrence of a spell.
It helps neurologists to determine the nature of the seizure or spell so that they can effectively treat the condition.While identifying if seizures with unusual features are actually epilepsy, it helps in surgery by accurately pinpointing the region of the brain from where they originate.“Understanding epilepsy has been advanced by video EEG monitoring, which allows recording of the patient’s behaviour and the EEG.” head of Neurology B K Mihsra said
