The National Confederation of Dalit Organisation (NCDO) has launched a protest campaign against the inhuman treatment meted out to sanitation workers in software major Infosys in the city.
More than 100 sanitation workers of Infosys, Bhubaneswar have alleged that they were meted out ill-treatment by a senior manager of the company.
The executive has been accused of making casteist remarks and misbehaving them on the office premises. Infosys has employed about 200 sanitation workers on contractual basis.
The NCDO members told mediapersons here on Wednesday that the Infosys executive was shifted in 2012 following a similar allegation.
Though he was transferred on the basis of a joint complaint filed by the sanitation workers, he returned to the Bhubaneswar unit of Infosys earlier this year after getting a promotion.
On his return, he did not change his attitude. Rather, he has become more aggressive, the workers said.
The situation worsened when the manager made abusive and casteist remarks against one of the sanitation workers Sudhir Nayak. The workers approached the police for help. “We have filed a complaint with the police but no action has been taken yet,” said Nayak. He alleged that the manager forced him to double up as domestic help too.
NCDO president Ashok Mallick said if no action is taken against the Infosys executive, the members will resort to mass protest and gherao Commissionerate Police on November 27.
