HC Orders Spl Test to Fill up Seats in Pvt Engg Colleges

The Orissa High Court on Friday directed OJEE authorities to conduct a special entrance test for BTech, MCA and MBA courses in different private engineering colleges for the current academic session 2014-15.

CUTTACK: The Orissa High Court on Friday directed OJEE authorities to conduct a special entrance test for BTech, MCA and MBA courses in different private engineering colleges for the current academic session 2014-15.

A division bench comprising Justice I Mohanty and Justice B N Mohanty also fixed a counselling schedule for the purpose. While advertisement should be issued on Saturday, submission of online application forms would be held from August 3 to 7. The admit cards will be available for download on August 8 and 9 and the entrance test would be held on August 10.

The results would be published on August 12 with generation of rank cards on August 13. Spot counselling will be held on August 14 and students will have to report to colleges on August 15.

The directives of the court came in response to several writ petitions filed, including  one by Orissa Private Engineering College Association (OPECA), alleging that the State Government has failed to come up with any clear-cut guideline on filling up vacant seats after completion of OJEE counselling. This, the petitioners said, despite a significant number of eligible students willing to take admission in colleges against the vacant seats.

While OJEE and State Government have allowed institutions run by the Government to fill up vacant seats at their institutional level even after the first round of OJEE counselling, the private colleges are being discriminated, they alleged.
