Gastro Claims Four

KORAPUT: Gastroenteritis claimed four lives and affected 22 others in the last five days in Talagacha village under Bargi panchayat of Narayanpatna block.

According to reports, all of them had consumed the half boiled meat of a dead goat on Friday following which, they complained of nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. A the village is located in a hilly area, the villagers failed to reach the nearest primary health centre on time. And by the time, health officials reached the village, four persons had already died. A team of doctors and other health staff from Narayanpatna are currently camping in the village to prevent further spread of the viral infection.

Condition of the 22 affected persons is considered to be stable.

Additional District Medical Officer (Public Health), Arun Padhi, said the tribals suffered from gastroenteritis due to consumption of raw meat.
