Renewing the demand for Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s resignation over the multi-crore mining scam, State BJP president KV Singhdeo on Sunday said the party will organise State wide agitation programmes if the Chief Minister refused to step down.
“The Chief Minister has no moral right to continue in the office after severe indictment by the Shah commission of the State Government. The case should be handed over to CBI immediately,” Singhdeo said.
The Shah Commission report published recently has made it clear that the illegal mining running into ` 60,000 crores took place with the active involvement of the State Government.
The report leaked by a website said Government officials and politicians were involved in the scam.
Claiming that the BJP had first raised the mining scam in the Assembly way back in 2009, Singhdeo said the Chief Minister had then denied that there was any scam in the State.
However, the Chief Minister was forced to hand over the mining scam to the vigilance and issued show cause notices to some miners when the issue rocked the nation.
The State Government did nothing even after getting the inquiry report from the vigilance.
This move of the Government clearly demonstrated that it wanted to shield the miners and the politicians involved in the scam, he said.
The Chief Minster always says that law will take its own course. But, there are many instances including the mining scam where the law did not take its own course, the BJP president said.
