Notices Served on Holding Tax Defaulters

SAMBALPUR:The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) has launched a drive to collect the outstanding holding tax from commercial complexes and households across the city. An amount of ` two crore of holding tax is pending payment to the SMC.

The Corporation has issued notices to the owners of houses and commercial complexes asking them to pay the outstanding dues since February.

Deputy Commissioner of the Corporation Sudhansu Bhoi said the process of issuing notices to defaulters was started in February. Notices have already been issued to more than 220 households and commercial establishments, he added. These 220 establishments have more than `10,000 pending against each of them towards holding tax.  The defaulters have been asked to clear their dues within a stipulated time failing which, action will be initiated against them, Bhoi said.
