Sexual Harassment: Victim Lacks Trust in Bank Panel

BHUBANESWAR: While a six-member team of a private bank arrived in the Capital to conduct a probe into allegations of sexual harassment levelled by a female employee against a senior manager of a public sector bank here, the victim was apparently not convinced with the course of inquiry.

Soon after the meeting, the woman said she was hardly questioned about her ordeal. Rather, the discussion with committee members revolved around her performance and peripheral matters.

“On repeated occasions, the manager had touched me inappropriately and did not hesitate to abuse me before my colleagues when I resisted his advances. However, I do not have confidence that the inquiry committee’s report will provide me justice,” the woman said.

Sources said the committee will submit its report to the bank based on which actions would be initiated against the manager of the branch who was suspended soon after the woman approached the police in this matter.

The former bank manager is on the run evading police notice after the FIR was registered in this connection at Saheed Nagar police station. Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said police will issue a warrant against the banker very soon.
