Three Of Family Burnt Alive

JAIPUR: A woman and her two children were burnt alive allegedly by her husband at Debidwara village under Jajpur Town police limits late on Monday night.

Locals rushed the three to the nearest Government hospital where the doctors declared them brought dead. The deceased are Jayanti Sahoo (28), her six-year-old son Ashish and seven-month-old baby girl Saishradha.

According to police reports, at around 11 pm on Monday, some villagers noticed fire at Jayanti’s house and informed the fire fighters. After the fire brigade personnel brought the fire under control, they found Jayanti and her two children lying unconscious with severe burn injuries. Jayanti’s husband, Ananta, was not present during the incident.

Police were called in and the three rushed to the Government hospital, but doctors declared them brought dead. Police have detained Ananta suspecting his involvement in the incident. IIC of Jajpur Town police station Kamal Lochan Bhuyan said Ananta had a strained relationship with Jayanti and used to often threaten her of marrying another woman. Father of Jayanti, Suryamani Sahoo has lodged an FIR with the police alleging that Ananta had killed his daughter and grandchildren.

Man Sets Wife Afire

Salepur: In a similar incident in Salepur, a 25-year-old woman was set on fire allegedly by her husband in Barhampura village under Banki police limits on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Suman Behera. Police said following a fight with his wife Kamali on Tuesday morning, Suman tied her to a pole in their house and doused her with kerosene. He then set her afire and left the house with his mother Baluri Bewa after closing the doors. By the time neighbours took notice, fire had engulfed the entire house and charred body of Kamali was found inside. They informed the police who rushed to the spot and sent the body for autopsy. Suman and Baluri, who returned after some time, have been detained by police for questioning.
