SUV Driver Killed in Early Morning Mishap

BHUBANESWAR:In a tragic road accident, one person was killed and three officials of Steel Authority of India (SAIL) were seriously injured after a sand-laden truck rammed into their vehicle at Power House Square here on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Manoj Sahoo. The injured N Bhattacharya, Amitabh Sarkar and P Rao Choudhary are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Sources said the mishap occurred during wee hours of Sunday. Bhattacharya, Sarkar and Choudhary, all employees of SAIL, were heading towards Puri on Jaydev Vihar-Raj Bhavan route when their SUV was hit by the truck at Power House Square.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the SUV rolled over twice killing its driver Sahoo on the spot. Onlookers said police had to cut the mangled remains of the vehicle to pull out the passengers and body of the driver from it.

The passengers were rushed to Capital Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital. Sources said the condition of the injured passengers was critical. The driver of the truck fled after the mishap.

Capital Police has registered a case and seized the truck. A manhunt has been launched to nab the truck driver.
