Rights Panel Issues Notice to VIMSAR

BURLA /SAMBALPUR: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Friday issued notice to the Director of VIMSAR, Dr Sunamali Bag and Sambalpur SP Akhilesvar Singh over the death of five mothers in the medical in 20 days and has given them 30 days’ time to reply.

Acting on a petition filed by lawyer Prabir Das, a bench of SHRC comprising acting Chairperson Justice Birakishore Mishra and Member BK Pattnaik issued the notice. The next date of hearing has been fixed for June 9.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Suresh Pujari said the State Government should intervene in the matter immediately and issue direction for the safe custody and upbringing of the newborns in cases where the father expresses helplessness to take care of the child.

Meanwhile, Progressive Sambalpur, a social organisation, is mooting to lodge police case on the death of five mothers after delivery within a span of 20 days at VIMSAR.

Advisor of Progressive Sambalpur and economist Dilip Panda said the doctors responsible should be booked under Section 201 of IPC for disappearance of evidence and Section 302 for murder.
