Miscreants Loot Rs 1.5 Lakh

DHENKANAL: Four unidentified miscreants assaulted Dillip Sharma, a driver, and looted Rs 1.52 lakh at gun-point from Niranjan Sahoo, a businessman, on Deogaon-Sadangi road near  Deogaon village under Gondia police limits on Monday.

While Sahoo was going to Cuttack in a four-wheeler driven by Sharma, the miscreants intercepted them near Deogaon. When the driver stopped the car, they demanded the cash from Sahoo at gun-point. After snatching the bag containing the money from him, they also took away Rs 2000 from Sharma. When Sharma protested, they assaulted him. He has been admitted to a local hospital with head injuries. The miscreants had come in a car. Gondia Police said no arrest has been made so far.

Woman Killed

Sombari Nayak (52) of Chhatia village under Gondia block was killed in an attack by a tusker on Sunday. The incident occurred when Nayak was working in a cashew field, forest officials said. She died on the spot. DFO PK Sahoo said forest department has released Rs 10,000 to the victim’s family.
