JAJPUR: A sikhya sahayak working in Barapada Nodal School under Binjharpur police limits, Paresh Majhi, charged with raping and impregnating a  minor girl,  is absconding.

According to police, the 14-year-old girl, a Class IX student of Ramachandrapur High School used to have tuition under Majhi on the nodal school premises from 5 pm to 8 pm. The minor girl was sexually exploited by the teacher several times for the last couple of months.

However, the incident came to light after the minor girl became pregnant. Last week, the girl revealed the matter to her mother following which her father informed the headmaster of the nodal school.

As the news spread, members of District Child Welfare Committee (DCWC) and District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) conducted a joint inquiry and lodged a complaint with Binjharpur police against the accused teacher on Monday.

“The DCWC has filed a complaint against the teacher on Monday evening. We are on the job to arrest the accused as he has fled the village since the FIR was filed,” said Asit Kumar Mohanty, IIC of Binjharpur police station.
