Safe Drinking Water Plan for Slum-dwellers

Safe Drinking Water Plan for Slum-dwellers

BHUBANESWAR: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has joined hands with Public Health Engineering Organisation (PHEO) in a bid to ensure safe drinking water for slum-dwellers in the Capital.

At a high level meeting held here on Wednesday, BMC came up with a plan to set up over 500 water supply stand-posts in slums.

The PHEO was assigned the task to identify slums which are facing drinking water supply crisis. The PHEO came up with a list of around 25 slums which are deprived of clean  drinking water.

While PHEO has been entrusted with the responsibility of constructing water points and laying pipelines, BMC will bear the total cost of the project.

The proposal assumes significance as the Capital has been reeling under the crisis of drinking water supply for long and the problem remains grave in slums.
