BALASORE: District and Sessions Judge of Mayurbhanj Pramod Kumar Jena on Saturday sentenced a man to undergo 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) on charges of raping a minor girl, three years ago.
The convict Niranjan Behera (57) of Dova village under Badampahar police limits was also asked to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 and on default to undergo additional one year RI. He was tried under Section 376 of IPC.
According to the prosecution, Behera had allegedly lured a six-year-old girl of the same village to the terrace of his building and raped her on November 30, 2013.
He let her go after his family members went to the terrace after hearing her screams. The victim returned home and narrated the incident to her parents.
