BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate of Police on Saturday night arrested two persons on charges of illegal possession of firearms.
The accused, identified as Mahendra Sahoo of Puri and Sonu Panda of Jajpur, were planning a dacoity in GGP Colony under Mancheswar police limits, sources said.
A police team while patrolling on Cuttack-Puri by-pass road noticed the duo moving suspiciously. When they were asked to be frisked, Sahoo wielded a firearm at a sub-inspector and tried to escape.
He was overpowered by the cops and the duo taken into custody. A mauser and two rounds of live ammunition were seized from their possession.
Sahoo, a notorious criminal, is facing five criminal cases at Sea Beach police station in Puri while Panda’s antecedents were being verified. Both were produced in a local court which remanded them in judicial custody.
