ATHAGARH:The carcass of a female crocodile, aged about 12, was found floating in river Mahanadi in Kandarpur village near here on Monday morning.

As per preliminary report, the crocodile reportedly died of starvation, said Athagarh Forest Range Officer Goura Gopal Si. During post-mortem about 10 eggs were retrieved from crocodile’s abdomen and the carcass showed signs of hunger. Samples have been sent for viscera test to Bhubaneswar to ascertain the actual cause of death. The carcass was buried in Bauda central forest nursery.
