CMC for Action against Negligent Engineers

CUTTACK: The Cuttack Municipality Corporation (CMC) has recommended departmental disciplinary action against two engineers for performing their duty in a grossly negligent manner.

The engineer duo has been identified as Assistant Executive Engineer Mahesh Prasad Mishra and Junior Engineer Bipin Pradhan.

As per reports, considering last year’s jaundice situation, authorities of CMC had decided to set up 10 safety tanks for smooth management of human excreta in unhygienic areas of Jobra and to maintain proper sanitation and cleanliness. The authorities observed that the excrement from individual households was coming in direct contact with the drains and in the process, contaminating the drinking water in pipelines passing through these drains.

Official sources said the CMC had even sanctioned funds for the safety tanks. However, the tanks were not completed within the stipulated time fixed by the CMC due to negligence of Mishra and Pradhan.

Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department G Mathivathanan, who recently visited jaundice-affected Jobra area, had expressed dissatisfaction over the progress of work following which the CMC took the step against the two engineers.

The authorities have recommended to the Housing and Urban Development Department to take action against Executive Engineer Mishra while suggesting the Mayor to act against Junior Engineer Pradhan.
