HC Stays Ravenshaw Recruitment Process

CUTTACK: In a significant order, the Orissa High Court on Thursday directed a stay on recruitment process for faculty members in Ravenshaw University as per the January 29 advertisement.

Acting on two writ petitions filed by Dr Sujata Mishra and Dr Manoranjan Behura, a division bench of the court comprising Justice Indrajeet Mohanty and Justice DP Chowdhury issued notice to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Secretary of Higher Education Department and University Grants Commission (UGC) to file their response.

The petitioners alleged illegalities and irregularities in recruitment of faculty members in different departments of the university.

According to petitioners, the present recruitment process was in violation of the rules of UGC as well as the directives of High Court in an earlier judgment. It was also alleged that the action of the authorities of university being tainted with malice, the same is liable to be quashed and the recruitment be conducted in a fair and transparent manner as per rules and regulations.

Order on Achyuta Ashram Demolition

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Thursday directed the Khurda district administration to demarcate Government land before demolition of structures standing on the premises of Trahi Achyuta Ashram at Jhinti Sasan on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. Acting on a writ petition filed by Sri Sri Mahaprabhu Achyutananda Trust, Bhubaneswar challenging the ongoing demolition of structures on Government land, a single judge bench of Justice Sanju Panda issued the directive. The petitioner had alleged that some of the structures proposed to be demolished are located over private land of the Trust and the administration in the name of eviction was trying to demolish all the structures.
