CUTTACK: Magalabag Police rescued an 18-month-old girl Pinky Das, who was kidnapped from a house at Akhada Lane in Buxi Bazar, on Wednesday night and handed her over to her parents. The police also arrested kidnapper Pradip Behera (30) of Barabara in Jatani and forwarded him to court on Thursday.
Mangalabag police station IIC Arun Kumar Swain said Pradip had kidnapped Pinky, daughter of one Purushottam Das, on March 19 night and demanded a ransom of `1 lakh for her release over phone.
Following the ransom call, Das lodged a complaint, on the basis of which, police launched a search to nab the accused.
Sources said fearing arrest, Pradip left the minor girl at his relative’s place and fled.
Acting on a tip-off, Mangalabag police arrested Pradip who had come to Cuttack on Monday. Basing on his information, Pinky was rescued from a house in Buxi Bazar.
