Less Students, 34 Schools Set to be Closed

JAGATSINGHPUR: The district administration has decided to close at least 34 primary schools due to shortage of students. As per the guidelines of School and Mass Education department, primary schools having less than 10 students will be closed.

Recently, the officials of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) conducted a survey and found that out of 1,556 primary schools in the district, nine schools each in Raghunathpur and Erasama, five in Biridi, four each in Tirtol and Naugaon, one each in Balikuda, Jagatsinghpur and  Kujang blocks have less than 10 students.

As many as 68 teachers of these schools will be engaged in nearby primary schools while the buildings will be used as Anganwadi Kendra and training centres for teachers.

District Project Coordinator of SSA Sapan Kumar Jena said closure notices will be served to these schools soon and its students will be admitted in nearby schools.
