Another Infant Branded with Hot Sickle

ROURKELA:  A 10-month-old infant, Pritam Singh, of Silkuta village under K Balang police limits in Sundargarh district was branded with a hot sickle under superstitious belief for curing an ailment on Saturday.

The child is undergoing treatment at Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH).

Reports said the infant was taken to a quack after he suffered from severe abdominal discomfort. The quack  branded him with a hot sickle on his stomach. The child was later rushed to the hospital after his condition deteriorated.

Doctors of RGH on Sunday said that the condition of the baby is stable. A month ago, a two-month-old baby boy was branded under similar circumstances and he had died at RGH due to septicaemia.
