BHUBANESWAR: Former director general of police Sanjeev Marik took a plunge into politics by joining the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Monday.

Marik joined JMM at Ranchi in the presence of JMM chief Shibu Soren and executive president Hemant Soren. The former DGP said it is for the party to decide whether to make him a candidate or not. Marik is from Godda in Jharkhand and is likely to contest polls from his ancestral place.

By-poll in Godda has been necessitated after the death of BJP MLA Raghunandan Mandal in January this year. Though the date is yet to be announced, the by-election has to be held within six months of the seat falling vacant.
