D-brothers' Sharpshooter Arif Taken to Murder Spot

CUTTACK: Chauliaganj police on Wednesday took Dhal Samanta brothers’ sharpshooter Arif Khan to the farm house of Nirmal Rout in Athagarh and conducted a recce of the spot where two former aides of the gangster siblings Deepak Malik alias Dipu and Om Swain were murdered in 2013.

Sources said Arif identified the spot where the murder took place and also gave details of the two incidents, said IIC, Chauliaganj police station Ajay Kumar Das.

“Police have got some more important leads from Arif in the murder of Dipu and Om basing on which further investigation is on,” Das said.

Commissionerate Police had arrested Arif from Madurai in Tamil Nadu. The sharpshooter’s involvement in the murder cases had come to the fore during investigation and interrogation of other accused. Besides, he was also involved in extortion and other criminal activities of the Dhal Samanta brothers. Arif was also involved in the murder of Cuttack Malgodown pulse trader Mohammed Farook Tayeb.

The Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM), Cuttack on Tuesday had allowed Commissionerate Police to take  Arif on six-day remand.
