Local Autos Cry Foul over Online Services

BHUBANESWAR: Commuters depending on auto-rickshaws in the Capital City had to face great inconvenience on Thursday as the three-wheelers remained off the road protesting the App-based online auto services.

Bhubaneswar Autorickshaw Mahasangha took out a rally from Master Canteen to PMG Square demanding that the Government should take immediate measures to shut down three online companies which are operating in Bhubaneswar and providing App-based auto-rickshaw services at a cheaper rate. The members of the auto-rickshaw body also demanded cancellation of licences of the e-companies.

“The business of local auto drivers has been badly hit by these network-based auto services. It is not possible for us to provide services at cheaper rates as we do not have a network,” said auto driver Alekh Singh.

Members of the Mahasangha said there must be some regulations over these companies so that they cannot cut down rates fixed by the associations arbitrarily.

They staged a dharna at PMG Square during noon and submitted a memorandum to Police Commissioner YB Khurania seeking his intervention in the matter.
