BHUBANESWAR: Sex racket kingpin, Sunil Meher, on Saturday claimed that he is innocent and being framed. Meher, arrested on Thursday from Kolkata airport, was brought to Nayapalli police station for interrogation.
"I am being framed and I have quit the line and living outside the State now," he told mediapersons. He also accused the police of making him a 'soft target' everytime a sex racket is busted in the City.
However, police sources said Meher never gave up flesh trade. He was rather more active during 2015-16 and operated from Kolkata over phone and had an escort service website.
"The business did not require physical presence of a pimp in the City. Meher was carrying out his activities online. He arranges escorts for his clients in Bhubaneswar sitting at a faraway location without being detected," a senior police official said.
The interrogation of Meher will find his contacts in Odisha who received women from airport and railway station and ferried them to safe locations. There are a number of guest houses in Nayapalli and Chandrasekharpur areas of the City which are used for the illegal trade, sources said.
