CUTTACK: Two more Tehsildars have landed in a soup after the joint inquiry committee found them guilty of gross irregularities in the conduct of tender process of different sand quarries in their respective tehsils. The two are Tigiria Tehsildar Lokanath Behera and former Salepur Tehsildar Rudra Naryan Dash.
Sources said the though Tehsildars had no connection with Dhal Samanta brothers, they had shown favour to associates of other gangsters.
Earlier, the inquiry committee had found role of Baranga Tehsildar Akshay Rout, Damapada Tehsildar Mamata Barik and former Cuttack Sadar Tehsildar Abani Kanta Patnaik in tender fixing by Dhal Samant brothers to avail five sand quarries. It had submitted a report to Collector, Cuttack to take action against the three Government officials.
Sources said, the district administration has framed charges against all the five Tehsildars as per Sub-Section 15 (4) of Odisha Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules 1962 and recommended to the State Government to take necessary action against them.
The administration has also cancelled five sand quarries owned by Dhal Samanta brothers illegally.
Taking advantage of the arrest of Dhal Samanta brothers, some gangsters now have become active in illegal sand quarrying activities in different tehsils of Cuttack district. If steps are not taken to curb the illegal sand mining, there will be more loss of revenue besides facilitating and inducing criminal activities, the sources added.
