BERHAMPUR:  Corporators of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) on Monday sought a permanent solution to the drinking water problem in all Wards, during the civic body council meeting here.

Corporator of Ward 3, Ashok Kumar Shukla said people in his Ward face water scarcity also during monsoon and winter even as a pipeline from the Dakhinapur water project passes through the area. Corporator of Ward 31, Surendra Kumar Maharana made similar allegation.

Local MLA, RC Choupatnaik told the corporators that 100 water tankers have been deployed in water-stressed areas of the city and if required, more tankers will be brought in.

The corporators said pipelines passing through several drains have been damaged as a result of which, drinking water gets contaminated.

Alleging that roadside vendors of traditional drinks use polluted water, the corporators said the practice should be checked.

Irregularities in provision of ration cards were also discussed.
