Orphanage Inmates Gear up for Madhu Jayanti

CUTTACK: With just a day left for 168th birth anniversary of Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das, inmates of the orphanage run by Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust (KGNMT) at Satyabhamapur in Salepur block are leaving no stone unturned to make the occasion a memorable one.

The orphanage, which operates from the ancestral house of Madhu Babu, wears a refurbished look with the rooms made spic and span for visitors who will flock the place on April 28.

The ‘Entudi Sala’ (birth spot) of the thatched two-room house where Madhu Babu was born has also been given a new look.

A festive fervour has gripped all the 50 girls staying in the orphanage. A Plus Three first year student Anima Sahu has been staying in the orphanage for the last 13 years. “The inmates are busy preparing different cakes like Enduri, Chakuli, Manda and Kakara for the birth anniversary celebrations of Madhu Babu. I feel proud to celebrate the birth anniversary of one of the architects of modern Odisha in his ancestral home, a place which has also given shelter to many orphans like me,” Sahu said.

“We celebrate the birth anniversary of Madhu Babu just like people celebrate birthdays of their children,” said Sandhya Rani Mallik, the caretaker of the orphanage.
