CUTTACK:  A close aide of Sushil and Sushant Dhal Samanta, Lalan Kumar Gupta alias Lala, was arrested by the Commissionerate of Police on Wednesday.

Lala, a notorious criminal, faces serious charges of bombing, tender fixing, kidnapping, extortion and illegal possession of firearms. There are at least seven cases registered against him in five police stations of the City.

A resident of CDA Sector VII under Markat Nagar police limits, Lala had fled from the City soon after the duo was arrested in January this year from the State Capital.

Lala was an active member of Cuttack Nagar Yuvak Sangh which was formed by the gangster siblings. In 2014, he was handpicked by Sushil to supervise the illegal activities of the gang in Cuttack.

Besides, he was also a middleman who procured firearms for members of the Dhal Samanta network.

Lala was produced in a court which remanded him in judicial custody. Police have launched a manhunt for his partner and once the latter is arrested, the duo may be taken on remand, Arora added.
