Truckers Suspend Coal Transport

JHARSUGUDA:  Brajrajnagar Coal Movers Association suspended transport of coal from Lakhanpur, BOCM and Lilari open cast mines citing non-payment of dues by a transport agency.

On Wednesday, members of the association announced their decision to stall transport of coal from Lakhanpur area of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) citing non-payment of freight charges amounting to about ` five crore by Haryana-based Ardhnageswar Coal Carriers.

Every month, more than 1500 trucks transport around 70,000 tonne of coal from Lakhanpur to Vedanta Industries at Jharsuguda, the association members said. The truck owners said if the agency fails to clear the dues at the earliest, they will stall Vedanta coal rakes as well. Officials of Ardhnageswar Coal Carriers declined to comment.
