Rain Relief for Koraput

JEYPORE: The residents of several areas in Koraput district heaved a sigh of relief as wind accompanied with mild shower was reported at Borrigumma, Semiliguda, Dasmantapur and Kotpad on Thursday.

In fact, these areas have been experiencing heat wave- like condition for the past two weeks with temperature touching 40 degree Celsius.   According to sources, the day temperature in both hills and plains was between 39 and 42 degree for the last 15 days.

Though a mild drizzle and wind was reported in Pottangi three days back, it had little impact on temperature.

Fight for Water

Nandapur police on Thursday registered cases against 11 persons for indulging in violence for drawing irrigation water.

According to sources, the villagers of Machput and Chari Maliput have been drawing irrigation water for their lands from Machput canal.

Due to heat, the flow of water in the canal had reduced and the villagers near the upper canal blocked passage of water to Chari Maliput leading to tension. The farmers of Chari Maliput attacked Machput villages, injuring six persons. Police rushed to the spot and registered a case against 11 persons of both villages.
