CM Announces Formation of Odisha Skill Development Authority

BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today announced formation of the Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) to be headed by well known IT entrepreneur Subroto Bagchi.

Announcing this in the assembly today, the chief minister said the OSDA will guide, implement, coordinate and oversee all skill development programmes in the state to ensure quality training standards and sustained employability of trained youths.

The chief minister said Bagchi will be given the rank of cabinet minister and all the support necessary to make a difference to the youths of the State. He will assume office on May 1 and draw a salary of Rs 1 per year.

Bagchi will directly report to the chief minister. He will begin his work with a visit to all the 30 districts of the state to get a first hand understanding of the initiatives on the ground and submit his recommendations based on which, a detailed programme will be worked out.

The proposed Authority will bring convergence amongst skill development programmes across departments and create a momentum for thousands of young boys and girls of the State to receive skill training in a professional manner, the chief minister said.
